Shem Taylor Obituary
Shem passed away with family by his side, after a 3-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on a Sunday morning in Edmonton, Alberta to Alice Grace Taylor (Boskoyous) and Guiou Harry Taylor Jr. who lived in Kansas City Missouri USA, but knew they were having a son so decided that he would be born in Canada so he could not be drafted into the US army.
Shem moved to Sandy Lake in July of 1979 were he made many friends, helped build their first house, enjoyed the outdoors and reading – lots of reading. Shem was a smart one. Reading very well at 3 years old, he then skipped a few grades in elementary and Jr. High. Shem lived in a few different places throughout his life, Kansas City, Sandy Lake, Wabasca, and Edmonton. He traveled to a few others Pakistan, Quebec, California to name a few.
He worked at different jobs through out his life – Security, EMR and EMT, Oil Field Medical Responder, Techer Assistant and Tutor. But his passion was the Fire Department, he started as a Jr member at 12 years old with the Wabasca Fire Department then joined the Sandy Lake Fire Department in adulthood where he held the positions Training Officer, Captain and Chief. He was a member of the Sandy Lake Fire Department for over 20 years.
Shem married the love of his life Krya Taylor (Bigstone) September 10th 2022 in a peaceful ceremony at Hawrelek Park in Edmonton Alberta. He and his family lived in Edmonton while he received Cancer treatments. This was a time of showing Kyra and his kids all the great things city life offered from his favorite Chinese restaurant to walks in the park.
Shem is survived by wife Krya Taylor, children – daughter Hoda Aplice Taylor and son Shem Guiou Taylor Jr. Siblings brother-Guiou Taylor III (Renee), Sisters JaLean Harrington and Tahirih Wiebe (Richard), Sister in law Alison Taylor, also his (claimed sister) Judy Stewart (Brian). Aunts Joyce Beaver, Elizabeth Auger, Carolyn Auger, Greta Taylor, Uncles Robin Auger and Don Auger. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by parents Guiou Taylor Jr, Alice & Mark Reid, Brother Gordon Robin Taylor, Both sets of Grandparents – Toma & Sally Auger Boskoyous, Guiou Sr and Ern Taylor, Aunts Iris Krewac, Gayle Taylor, Uncles Thomas Auger & Richard Cerny.
Shem will be remembered as a quiet, calm person who loved his family, loved to dance and loved to help others who didn’t like crowds.
