Bradford John “Brad” Laidlaw
Passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2023, at the age of 60.
Born on February 26, 1962 in Halifax, NS – Brad was a very proud and loving father, partner, son, brother and uncle and will be deeply missed by his partner of 23 years, Tracey Holmes; his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Laidlaw of Gaetz Brook, NS (Ron Charlton); his sister, Darci O’Leary (Shamus); his brother, Greg Laidlaw (Kelsey Cunningham); his son, Justin Laidlaw and Justin’s mother, Lauren Schagen (Michael Thomas) and family; and also his many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father, Wilfred “Junior” Laidlaw of Middle Musquodoboit, NS (Roseanne). He will be lovingly remember by Barb and Eric Holmes & family.
Growing up, Brad was a beloved member of the Dartmouth YM-YWCA Upward Bound group who provided day camp recreation experiences for children with varying challenges. Brad forged lifelong friendships with fellow leaders and was a mentor to many of the children – which he continued on with later in his career during his time at Camp Wenonah. Brad, gave service, enriched lives, was a friend with a mischievous twinkle in his eye and made everyone smile for which he will always be fondly remembered.
He was a Veteran of the Canadian Airborne Regiment and very supportive of the Royal Canadian Legion.
“Chef Brad” graduated from George Brown College and became a Red Seal Certified Chef in 1996 and had a prominent career working at Glen Abbey Golf Club, Chateau Lake Louise, Panorama Mountain Resort, The Windermere House and was the Executive Chef at The Georgian Peaks Ski Club and Camp Wenonah – winning many awards throughout his career.
Brad was an avid golfer who loved to snowboard & travel and became an avid hockey fan. Brad lived his life 100% truly and authentically himself, Always. His personality was larger than life.
Cremation will be taking place and a Celebration of Life will be planned for Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Memorial donations may be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund.
