Blaine Sampson, 69 of Louisdale passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023 at St Martha’s Hospital with his daughter Chasity and her partner Trevor by his side. Born in Sydney, NS he was the son of the late Vincent Joseph and Dorothy Mary (MacRae) Sampson. Blaine was a proud member of The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 73 for over 50 years. He was a master in his trade and known among his fellow brothers for his expertise. Blaine received many acknowledgments for his dedication and contributions to making projects successful on the numerous shutdowns he worked on.
In his younger years, he loved nice cars and old country music and passion and appreciation for both remained strong throughout his lifetime, Charley Pride being one of his favourite singers.
Blaine enjoyed playing gentleman’s hockey, boating on the Bras d’Or Lakes, hunting with brother Gary and watching Jeopardy. Very seldom did he get a question wrong. He looked forward to the morning paper to complete the daily crossword puzzle as he loved a challenge. He was a book of knowledge and very competitive.
Back in the day, Blaine enjoyed playing crib on Sundays with his father, brother Gary and Johnny Grandma. Being a sports fan, you could always find him cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays or The Montreal Canadians with an Alexander Keith’s in his hand.
Blaine was close with his brothers and sisters each in their own special way. He always looked forward to Brenda’s daily visits and her home-cooked meals. They were very close in age and had a very thick bond. He looked forward to Marlene’s phone calls and visits when she came home from Alberta. He wasn’t much for the phone but always said “I love you” at the end of the call. Blaine introduced his younger brother Gary to the boilermakers. They traveled and worked together on many shutdowns. They were very close and one didn’t go far without the other. Having his younger brother Vincent next door to him was a comfort. Vincent would check in on him and made sure that Blaine knew if he needed anything that he was always close by. Blaine also enjoyed a good game of pool or cards with Marlene, Vincent and Gary but he didn’t like to lose.
Expecting his first child would be a boy, Blaine was over the moon to have his baby girl in his arms. He would sing to Chasity, ‘Daddy’s Girl’ by Red Sovine. She was the center of his world and the light of his life. He would talk about her every chance he could and his pride for her always shined through. Those who knew Blaine, all knew he had a big and soft heart, especially for his little girl.
He leaves behind and will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Chasity (Trevor). His sisters; Brenda (Albert), Marlene (Bradley) Brothers; Gary (Donna), Vincent. Nephews; Trevor, Joshua and Nathan. He was predeceased by his nephews Ashley and Justin.
A special thank you to Dr. DeRoach, Melinda Aitken, Stephanie Covington, Duane Burke and Clara Mandu all of the St. Richmond Hospital. We would also like to acknowledge Charlie Green who was Blaine‘s roommate at the Strait Richmond Hospital. They formed a special bond over the three months they spent as roommates. Many stories and hearty laughs were heard.
At Blaine’s request, there will be no visitation or church service. Cremation has taken place and there will be no burial. Memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Hospital.
