Birgit Mintenko (nee Peters) was born in Hamburg, Germany and passed away peacefully in West Kelowna, BC on April 9, 2023 at the age of 52.
Birgit will be remembered and sadly missed by her Husband, Melvin of West Kelowna, BC; Parents, Egon Peters (Joyce Petryshyn) of Airdrie, AB, and Monika Tomzik (Ralph Meyer) of Calgary, AB; Children, Holly Weaver (Kyle) of Eckville, AB, Stephen Smith (Kaylee) of Calgary, AB, and William Isaac of Kelowna, BC; Grandchildren, Landon, Lukas, and Faith of Eckville, AB; Siblings, Belinda Goudreau (Mike) of West Kelowna, BC, Dennis Peters (Twyla) of Calgary, AB, and Eddie Rojas-Tomzik (Angela) of Calgary, AB; Nieces, Mary Goudreau of Calgary, AB, Michelle Peters of West Kelowna, BC, Lauren Peters of Calgary, AB; Nephews, Brandon Goudreau of West Kelowna, BC, Evan Peters of Calgary, AB; Aunts, uncles and cousins in Calgary and Germany
She is predeceased by her Aunt, Suzanne Papp; Grandparents, Heinrich and Irma Peters (paternal) and Otto and Christel Tomzik (maternal).
Birgit had a kind and caring heart and will always be remembered for her fun and upbeat nature in life and being the type of person who would help others by always giving the shirt off her back if she could. She cared deeply about other people and would make sure that others around her were as happy as possible. This is evident in her willingness to always help people within her community by shoveling snow, assisting with gardening, or bringing them something that she had baked. In her free time, Birgit really enjoyed baking and cooking, gardening, drawing, and spending time with her pets. Throughout her life, Birgit had a passion for the arts and was an exceptional and talented artist. Even though she could draw all sorts of things, her love to was to draw animals. Her favorite times of the year were summer and Christmas.
Birgit loved her children, grandchildren, and family dearly and treasured watching and hearing about how everyone was doing and growing up. She would ensure to keep in touch with family and friends and thus would often write letters or messages to family and friends. As her favorite thing to draw was unicorns, she often would provide these drawings in her letters.
Birgit will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A Celebration of Birgit’s Life will be held at Hanson Arbor Westwood Chapel at 2541 Churchill Road, West Kelowna, BC on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
There will also be a Celebration in Calgary, AB at First Assembly, 6031 Elbow Drive SW on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. where her family and friends can come together to honor her memory and celebrate her life.
