It is with heavy
hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Betty (Webber)
Gamble, April 5th, 2023, at Pine Grove Nursing
Home at the age of 77 years. Born December 22 (23) 1946, in Dartmouth,
NS, she was the daughter of the late Veronica and Alec
Webber.
Betty was an
extremely devoted Mother, Grandmother, Friend, and teacher who has a
huge heart with love to give to everyone she came in contact with.
Betty and Wayne’s house was a gathering spot for all her
children’s friends, everyone was always welcomed, and Betty
made sure there was “enough” food for everyone (nothing was
done in moderation). Everyone always joked that Betty was cooking for
an Army and boy could she
cook.
Betty’s
passion was her children Bridget, Ryan and her grandchildren Brooke,
Bailey, Reese, Grayson, and Riley. Betty did not miss a basketball
game of Bridget’s or a hockey game of Ryan’s
throughout the years they played, and if she was able, she was there
for her grandchildren’s sports as well. Even when she
couldn’t physically be there, she needed to know every
detail of every game the grandkids played. Betty loved having
sleepovers with her grandkids, teaching them how to cook and always
with loving guidance and patience. She loved walking her soul dog
Tucker and cruising around the city with him as her passenger in her
convertible, you rarely saw one without the
other.
In
Betty’s early retirement years, she enjoyed spending time
with her best friend Sheila going to movies a couple times a week even
if, as Shelia reminded us, there wasn’t anything they really
wanted to see. She also joined a bowling league with her
other best friend Claire and enjoyed her Tuesday afternoon games and
then lunch with the girls (Claire also became part of the weekly movie
crew with the girls).
Betty was a Home
Economics teacher for 40+ years and to this day people always comment
to her family that she was their favorite teacher. Mom had the most
humble spirit and beautiful heart and she had a huge impact on so many
people’s lives without realizing she
had.
Betty is survived
and sadly missed by her two children Bridget Gamble Russell (Bram) and
Ryan Gamble (Sarah); her five grandchildren, Brooke and Bailey
Russell, Reese and Grayson Gamble and Riley Jenkins. Her best friends
Sheila (Rick) Chase, Claire (John) Robinson and Monique Allain. In
addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband Wayne,
brother David (Mary) and chosen family member Craig
Chase.
Betty’s
family would like to thank the Pine Grove staff for the wonderful love
and care they took of her over the past 6 years and during her final
days in palliative Care. They truly loved her and showed it in the
gentle loving way they comforted and cared for
her.
In keeping with
Betty’s wishes there will be no funeral or visitation but
rather a small family gathering to celebrate Betty’s life
and memories.
