Bessie Joyce Chapman (nee Smith)
passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at the Dr. George’s
L. Dumont Hospital, Monday, November 30,
2020.
Bessie was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Smith of
Dorchester. She was pre-deceased by her husband R. Barry Chapman and
her siblings, James, Wallace, Beatrice, Keith and
Lyman.
She leaves behind daughter Patricia MacLennan of Brampton
Ontario, son Stephen Chapman (Ann) of St. Stephen NB and daughter
Bonnie Chapman Roy (Guy) Of Cocagne NB; grandchildren Christopher,
Susan (Kirk), Chuck (Mandy), Brittni (Shea), Zackarie, Robert and
James; great-grandchildren Maya (Zach), Kaylee, Noah, Aaryk, Harper
and Mila, who all brought her joy. She will be missed by her sister in
law Elaine Smith and all of her nieces and nephews.
Bessie was a member of the Dorchester Anglican Church Women
where she baked and served for many years. Bessie was also a
long-standing member of the Dorchester chapter IODE, also belonging to
their Provincial Executive and the Eastern Star. She was a wonderful
volunteer and loved by many.
Bessie had a quick wit and loved a good joke. Bessie loved to
read and play scrabble. She was an amazing mother to her three
children and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all
of her heart.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff
on 4C of the Dr. George’s L Dumont for her last hours of
care.
A very special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Royal
Court and Monarch Hall of Riverview NB for their loving care of Bessie
since 2007.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones
Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB
(506-364-1300). Cremation has taken place. A graveside service for
Bessie will be held at the Dorchester Rural Cemetery on Saturday,
August 12, 2023 at 11 am with an opportunity to share memories and a
time of tea and fellowship to follow at the Holy Trinity Anglican
Church Hall in Dorchester.. Father Craig O’Brien
presiding.
