The family of Bennett Morris is sad to announce that he suddenly passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, while indulging in his passion for travelling on an Alaskan cruise with several family members.
Born in Tillsonburg, Ontario, to his parents, Ellis and Pauline Morris, his early and formative years were spent on the family farm in Hatchley, Ontario. It was there that he learned his life-long lessons of hard work, integrity and honesty. A “jack of all trades, but master of none”, he had an innate ability to learn and teach himself many valuable and practical skills from various trades, along with teaching those skills to whomever was willing to learn. However, his life motto for anything he worked on was, “If it doesn’t work out, trim covers everything!”
He was well known for valuing simplicity and was a highly ethical and dedicated person in all areas of his life. He was selfless in offering his skills and knowledge to family and friends alike, and once he made a commitment, you could rest assured that he would always follow through.
His passions included golfing and adventuring around North America, both for work purposes and for pleasure, alongside his wife, during their retirement years. He was always willing to talk of his adventures and share knowledge and advice to those who were planning their own.
Above all, he was known for his dry and witty sense of humour and practical jokes. A gentle giant, quiet and observant, until he smiled. That smile, though rare in pictures, lit up his eyes, his face, the room and it will be sorely missed. His was a simple life, but it was a life well lived and well loved.
Bennett is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sheila (nee Malcolm); children Katherine, Michael (Jennifer) and Corrine; grandchildren Tessa, Jadeen, Bennett and Lillian., He was excitedly expecting great grandchild “Baby Bean”. He will be missed by his siblings Ancha Lee, Trudy, Mark (Tracy), Paul and Melissa, as well as several brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, and friends that were always considered as family. Bennett was predeceased by his sister, Merry Beth McLees and her husband Steve McLees, and by sister in law Debbie Morris.
Funeral Service arrangements incomplete at this time and will be announced soon. Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King Street, Burford. 519-449-1112. www.keithovington.ca
