SMILEY, Barbara Ann Lorraine (née Glassford)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barb Smiley on April 17, 2023. Loving wife to Scott for 55 years. Beloved Mother to Todd (Chantal), Brent (Nicole), and doting Nana of Luke and Claire. Caring sister to Barry (Ellen) Glassford and loving aunt to Karina and Courtney.
Barb was a nurse for over 40 years at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. Working as the Head Nurse in the Four East Ward, in the hospital Health Office, and the Infection Control Department. She finished her career as the Head Nurse in the Endoscopy Unit. She was a member of the Home and School Association, and she played an important role in the building of the new Balaclava Public School.
Barb was a remarkable woman, known for her positive spirit, her passion for life, her sense of humor, and her curiosity. Barb loved music, dancing and was an avid golfer (she even had a hole in one). One of Barb’s greatest passions was travel with family and friends. She visited many parts of the world and was fascinated by different cultures. Barb had a love for camping, and spent a lot of time over the years in the great outdoors, often with her family and friends.
Barb’s family and friends could always count on her to be there for them. Barb cherished family traditions above all else. Nana never missed a game or event that Luke or Claire participated in. Barb was also an animal lover, and her two granddogs, Wilfrid and Parry, held a special place in her heart.
Barb’s life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and community. Her legacy will live on in the memories of those whose lives she touched. She will be forever remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Rest in peace, Barb, your boundless energy and love for life inspired us all.
Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Barb’s Life on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 1-4 pm at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N.Waterdown.
