Obituary
Leaving our world with dignity and grace on July 10, 2023, at the age of 93 years, Audrey will be fondly remembered and respected by all who knew her.
Audrey was born in Trochu, Alberta, to Catherine (Walls) and John Beck. The family moved to Bingville, in southern Alberta, where Audrey and her younger sister Norma began their schooling. In 1941, with the military development of the Suffield Block, the family moved to Medicine Hat and then when Audrey was 16, on to Red Deer where the girls graduated from high school.
Audrey met and married her lifelong partner, Ken McLean in Red Deer in 1950. Moving to Ponoka in 1952, they purchased and operated the Ponoka Herald while raising a family and serving the community of Ponoka. Audrey was always involved in her children’s activities, volunteering with Ponoka Figure Skating Club, Brownies, Cubs & Scouts and CGIT, to mention a few, as well as serving the community through the Kinsmen/Kinettes organization.
A woman of incredible strength and character, Audrey has lived on her own, with support from her family and FCSS, since Ken’s passing in 2005. Making her own daily meals and baking cookies for her visitors, Audrey has been a pillar of strength and an admirable mentor to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To the moment of her passing, Audrey has always put the needs of others before her own, and enjoyed and appreciated having her family and friends visit or call.
Predeceased by her parents, beloved husband Ken, sister Norma, and niece Christy Burley, her dedication to her family, her commitment to serving her community, as well as her honesty, integrity, and selflessness, are qualities always admired and passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Audrey leaves to carryon, her daughter Terri Donald (Garry), son Michael McLean (Robin), daughter, Tracy Leidenius (Kelvin), grandchildren, Jared Donald (Jennifer), Sarah Fama (Tim), Kurt McLean (Jenna), Cory McLean (Hannah), Shaye Leidenius (Grant), Daria Leidenius (Matt) and great-grandchildren Ethan and Carter Donald and Carmella and Luca Fama.
In lieu of flowers, Audrey and family have requested donations to Ponoka General Hospital Palliative Care Unit or a charity of your choice.
A Funeral Service will be held at Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023.
