Obituary of Arnold G. Williams Funeral Service
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on June 24, 2023, at Riverside United Church, Bass River, Nova Scotia.
The family is saddened to announce the death of Arnold Gilboy Williams, 90, of Green Hill, Nova Scotia, who died suddenly at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow on May 4, 2023.
Born in 1932 in Londonderry, Colchester County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ina (Mattatall) Williams.
He will be dearly missed by all, including daughter Judy Pizzariello, Halifax; grandson Jayden; family including many nieces and nephews; and longtime neighbour and dear friend Joyce MacDonald, Green Hill.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (nee Lawson and known as Dot); son Bradley; sisters Geraldine Chisholm, Avis Canning, Erma Patriquin, Lalia Lawson; Blanche and Inez Mae in infancy; brothers John and Vernon.
He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Leading Aircraftman in Cold Lake, Alberta, from 1952 to 1955 and was a proud veteran. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Colchester Branch in Great Village for many years, participating in Remembrance Day services throughout that time. He was instrumental in creating Veterans Memorial Park in Bass River, Colchester County. Arnold and his beloved Dot sang together in the choirs of the United Churches in Westville, Bass River, and Five Islands for many years. Early in his professional life he worked at Inco in Sudbury, Ontario, as well as at Clairtone in Nova Scotia, and enjoyed a long career with Michelin Tire at its Granton plant in Pictou County.
Arnold will be remembered for his generosity, his wonderful wit and sense of humour, his love of animals, and his devotion to family, community, and church. His home and heart were always open, and a warm welcome was certain to be found.
Thank you to the dialysis unit at Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital in Pictou, and the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) Homecare and Meals on Wheels programs in Pictou County, for their wonderful care.
Donations can be made to the Veterans Memorial Park in Bass River, the Diabetes Society, Great Village Legion, or a charity of your choice. Family flowers only.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on June 24, 2023, at Riverside United Church, Bass River, Nova Scotia.
