Obituary
Arlene Bernice Buckley (née Vincent). August 6, 1943 – February 2, 2023. Arlene was born in Windsor, Ontario, to Aubrey and Evelyn Rose Vincent. She was the third of four girls: Barbara Jean Gemmell (Barry), deceased, Beverly Anne Channon (Jack Ellis), and Deborah Mae Vincent. Arlene’s mother died when Arlene was ten years old – this had a huge impact on Arlene’s life. She married Frank Buckley in May 1965, and in January 1971, they moved to Ireland, where their three children Cara Esther Buckley (Darby), Robin Andrew Buckley (Inyoung Choi), and infant David Buckley (deceased) were born. Ireland brought new dimensions to Arlene’s life, and she forged deep and lasting friendships there. The family moved to Canada in June 1980. Arlene worked for a number of years at the Bank of Montreal, the YMCA of Metropolitan Toronto and Halton Recovery House. From 2003 until the pandemic, Arlene regularly traveled with friends to Windsor/Detroit to sing the music of social activist Carolyn McDade. Arlene always said she found her tribe with this group, known as the Gaia Women of the Great Lakes Basin, and she remained part of the group until her death. A sincere thank you to Dr. Krista Bartlett, Dr. Leonard Kaizer, Dr. Elan Panov, the staff at Credit Valley Hospital, and to Arlene’s palliative care team. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills, Operation Smile and the Scott Mission would be appreciated. Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home (11582 Trafalgar Rd.) Georgetown on Friday February 10, from 2 – 4pm and 6 – 8pm. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday February 11, at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church. (14400 Argyll Rd.) Georgetown. To send expressions of sympathy visit www.jonesfuneralhome.co
