Obituary of Mrs. Anula Bowatte
Mrs. Anula Bowatte passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2023 at the age of 93, just short of her 94th birthday. She will be dearly missed by her children Athula Bowatte, Lumbini Ekanayake, Anoma Gunawardena, Maya Dissanayake and Priya Samarasinghe, loving mother-in-law of Upul Gunawardena, Jayampathy Ekanayake, Gamini Samarasinghe, late Dilini Bowatte, late Himala Dissanayake, beloved grandchildren Ayesha Ekanayake, Dishani Gunawardena, Dilhan Bowatte, Melani Samarasinghe, Randika Samarasinghe, Sonalya Bowatte, Dhananjaya Dissanayake and Dinushi Gunawardena and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles Bandara Bowatte.
Anula was born on May 25th, 1929, in Singapore, during which time her father was working in the construction industry, and her mother carried the household duties. She was very attached to her family and had three sisters and one brother. During her early childhood, Anula attended Kandy Convent but became one of the earliest Old Girls of the Mahamaya Girls School in Kandy when it invited Buddhist children to attend. The school was built in 1932.
Anula married Charles Bandara Bowatte, Director at A.Baur & Co. at 21 and had five children. She lived in Kandy, Sri Lanka and was a devoted mother before immigrating to Canada in 1990, where she continued to look after her grandchildren. Many of her interests carried over to Canada. She loved visiting parks and botanical gardens, was very fond of nature and had horticultural knowledge that allowed her to identify flowers wherever she went. Anula was also very active and enjoyed knitting and crafts in her downtime
