Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Anne Mary Stafford, in her 88th year. Anne passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Douglas Gordon Stafford (2004). Loved mother of Maryann and Henry Smit, Gord (Predeceased 2020) and Sheila Stafford, David Stafford, Cathy Vienneau and Dan Irwin (Predeceased 1990), Steve and Kathleen Stafford, and Doug and Patty Stafford. Loving grandmother of her 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Anne was born and raised in Toronto, where she met Doug in the early 1950s. They quickly married and started a family, making the exciting decision to move their growing family to “the farm” in the late 1960s. Here she helped Doug grow their successful family business further, all while raising their 6 children. The farm became the central gathering place for family and friends for over 50 years where many cherished memories were made.
One particular favourite memory is the annual corn roast to which family and friends came near and far. Anne put an incredible amount of hard work into the annual corn roasts, creating many special memories the family holds near and dear.
Anne was a lover of animals. She had many horses, dogs, and geese, and was well known for her love of the many budgie birds she had throughout the years. In her free time she loved to knit, and made many cherished blankets, outfits and yes – dish cloths! – that she gifted to her family. She was an avid baker and would always have a tray of her delicious goodies for everyone to enjoy.
Anne was an incredibly strong, hard-working and loving woman who will be missed every day.
“She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings.”
The family would like to thank the staff of Alexander Place, Home Area 4 and the nurses at Joseph Brant for their care.
Friends may visit with the family at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 starting at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Carmel Cemetery, Freelton.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
