Andrew (Andy) Joseph Yablonski
Peacefully on June 27th, 2023 at the Betel Home in Gimli, formerly of Fraserwood, Manitoba, Andrew (Andy) Yablonski passed away at the age of 91 years old.
Andy was predeceased by his parents Anton and Katherine, his brothers John, Walter, Frank, Joe & Peter and his sisters Mary Michaluk, Jean Nickarz, Ann Kozera & Angela Graboweski. Andy is survived by his sister-in-law Pat Yablonski and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born in Teulon, Manitoba on November 12, 1931 and was raised on the family farm in Malonton, Manitoba. Andy became blind by the young age of 17 and attended school at the CNIB in Toronto and Winnipeg. He had an ear for music and taught himself to play the accordion, violin, guitar, harmonica and keyboards. This love for music led him to become a member of the Polka Whippers band and with this band, and other musical partnerships, he spent many of his years performing at weddings, anniversaries and special events. Later in life, he provided musical entertainment at local care homes such as at Gimli Betel. Andy never ceased to impress with his musical abilities.
Andy treasured spending time with family and friends and would often walk to visit the many relatives and friends residing in the Fraserwood area. Andy welcomed visitors and enjoyed the company of his special friends, either by musical jams or by chatting on the phone. Andy touched the lives of many people who will remember him with great fondness.
A devote Catholic, Andy was a member of St Michael’s Roman Catholic Church and rarely missed a Sunday mass when he was able to attend.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023 at St Michael’s Church in Gimli, at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will take place prior to the service. Interment at Precious Blood Cemetery in Fraserwood, Manitoba. Pallbearers are nephews Joseph Kozera, Danny Kozera, David Yablonski, Michael Yablonski, Brian Yablonski & Joe Graboweski.
