It was with heavy hearts that we announced the passing of Al Suggitt on Feb.3/2023.
A Come and Go Celebration of Al’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 1-5pm at Hazelridge Sports Complex 26 Memorial Blvd, Hazelridge, MB
As Al would have wanted – a casual event with food, drink and the sharing of great stories!
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Al Suggitt on February 3, 2023 in his home in Cooks Creek at the age of 58.
Al proudly lived the first 30 years of his life in Transcona – God’s Country where he knew everyone and everyone knew Iggy. He grew up on Yale Ave with his mom, dad and 9 siblings. Al loved spending time with all of them at family dinners, bbq’s, etc. He was at his happiest when they were all together reminiscing about the old days.
Al and Kim met in 1988 and got married in 1995. They moved out to Cooks Creek in 1997. Nicholas and Graham completed their family. Al was the best dad. He was always present for his boys. He coached them in baseball and hockey and he taught them how to cook. He loved to sit for a meal at the table to discuss what happened in our lives that day. He was so very proud of his sons and the men they have become.
He graduated from Murdoch Mackay Collegiate and had started his work career at B & G Quickstop. After the Toyne’s took over the business and bought the Mac’s Convenience Stores franchise, Al stayed with them and eventually became District Manager. After leaving Mac’s, Al worked for the Nault family at Hotsy Central and most recently worked for Corpell’s Water. He loved working and made many lasting friendships along the way.
When Al and Kim married and moved to Cooks Creek, he became a part of another family, the Harasymec’s. He was very close to them all and loved the farm. He was a big help to Kim’s dad – he always bragged about how great he was at passing things to Eugene. He looked forward to his daily political arguments with him, as well.
Al was a sports fanatic! He played baseball, hockey, golf, slopitch and occasionally curled. As much as he loved to play, his real passion was coaching. There are few in Transcona and now Springfield who can say they were never coached by Big Al. We can’t even begin to count all the teams that he coached or the clinics that he ran. For Al, it was all about development and most importantly having fun.
He was passionate about volunteering his time with the kids. He was especially passionate about volunteering his time to keep the programs and clubs running so the kids had a safe place to play. He was involved with Springfield Minor Baseball, Red River Valley Baseball, Springfield Minor Hockey and as of late, he was a big part of the Hazelridge Sports Complex where just last week they had another successful burger/poutine night led by Chef Al. If anyone needed a hand with some kind of fundraising effort, Al was the first to step up.
Al was predeceased by his parents Quintin and Beryl Suggitt, his brother Gerry and his daughter, Quinn.
Al is survived by his wife, Kim and his two sons Nicholas (Rachel) , Graham and his best fur buddy, Braxton. He is also survived by his brothers Bob(Penny), Rod, and Larry and his sisters Gayle(Roy), Joan(Paul), Christine(Mel), Judy(Tom), Nancy(Kim), sister in law Cathy, in laws Eugene and Carolyn Harasymec, Christine, Tara and Stephanie(Merrick). Many nieces and nephews who all adored Uncle Iggy and all of whom he was so proud. Al also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers and friends.
As per Al’s wishes, there will be no formal service. A private family visitation will be held and Celebration of Al’s Life for everyone will be planned for this summer. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Because volunteering was so very important to Al, we ask that if for even one day this year volunteer at a charity or a community centre and think of Al when you do. It would make him very happy!
