It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Allan George Adamson’s passing. He was a larger than life character who chose to share the second half of his life with his devoted partner, Adele. Michele, Melanie and Mike were lucky enough to call him dad, as were Pete, Walt and Janet. Brandon, Carter, Kennedy and Riley had the honour of being Al’s grandchildren and whether they were near or far, Al took every opportunity to say how proud he was of them. Included in the list of “family” that he’s leaving behind are his many friends. Years spent in Mexico, playing hockey and fishing with his buddies and summers in Port Hope with extended family leave a long trail of people who already miss Al dearly.
Al grew up in the West End of Toronto, the youngest of four children. He spent most of his working career at Bell Canada and when he retired, he did it up right. Every October it was off to Mexico where he and Adele spent their winters soaking up the sun and spending time with amazing people. It was only after 2020 that because of his continuing fight with dementia, they were not able to return. He has spent the past 3 years in the warmth and safety of his home, surrounded by family and friends who love him.
In the end, Al was able to slip away peacefully in the comfort of his family room with the people who mattered to him most and a fire in the fireplace. Thank you to the amazing team of PSW’s, nurses and support people who made it possible to give Al the ability to pass away at home and with dignity, as he wanted.
Memorial Gathering at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Sunday January 15, 2023 from 4-7pm. If you would like to make a donation in honour of Al Adamson, please consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Both of these groups made a tremendous difference in Allan’s life.
