It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on April 5th, 2023. She passed away peacefully at the Peace Arch Foundation Lodge in Surrey.
Alice was predeceased by her son, Allan Dupasquier and the father of her children, Rene Dupasquier.
Alice was survived by her husband, Lauria (Lu) McGowan; son, Glen and daughters Elaine (Gary) Lewis, Sandy (Holden Redman) Dupasquier, and Denise (Jeff) Rockwell; grandson Kyle and granddaughters Kori, Kari and Renee; great-grandchildren Taya, Mason and Nyamekye; her brothers Peter Gobin, Ed (Carol) Gobin, Claude Gobin, sisters Elizabeth (Herb) Forrest and Joan Black; many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends.
Alice was born on March 1, 1933 in St. Claude, Manitoba, the sixth of eleven children. The family moved to British Columbia where Alice met Rene (Gus) Dupasquier and married in Cloverdale in 1953. They moved to the Pioneer/Bralorne valley where their children were born. They made so many life-long friends in this valley whose friendships still remain strong today.
The family moved to Squamish in 1975 and Alice eventually started her career with Mountain Building Supplies. Alice remarried in 1984 and moved to Richmond, eventually settling in Maple Ridge. She retired from Canex in Chilliwack on March 15, 2004, saying goodbye to a boss she had worked with since starting with Mountain Building Supplies in Squamish so many years ago. She was well known as the “paint lady” who could match paint colors to practically anything you brought to her.
Alice was a gentle soul who would do anything for those in need. She was well known to cook a dinner for an army whether it be a turkey or Chinese food. She loved her family deeply and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
There will be no service, however a celebration of Alice’s life will be held in the summer.
