ALAN BURROUGHS BAKER
1939 — 2023
Alan was born on August 12, 1939, the middle child of three, to Jack and Esther Baker of Aklavik, N.W.T. When he was a baby, the family moved to Watson Lake, Y.T., where his father became manager of the airstrip in 1941. Because of the War, and possible invasion from Japan, mother and children moved to BC, settling into Crescent Beach. When Alan was six, it became evident that he was afflicted with severe autism and couldn’t attend school, so he was cared for by his mother until her death in 1955. The next 29 years he lived in institutional facilities at New Westminster and Kamloops. In 1984, he was placed in a home in Kamloops. He enjoyed travelling, hockey games, and bowling. Shortly before Easter, Alan fell ill and passed into glory peacefully in his sleep on April 10th, 2023. He is survived by his brother Owen Baker of Salmon Arm and was predeceased by his sister Eileen Dickson.
