Obituary
DIANE MALCOLM (Nee Hutchison)
April 4, 1946 – April 5, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Diane Malcolm (Hutchison) on Wednesday April 5th, 2023 in the arms of her husband Martin and daughter Kimberly and her family at home, finally at peace and free from pain. She was 77 years old.
Diane was born in Glasgow, Scotland to Alice and Thomas Hutchison. Diane grew up with her brothers and sisters Steven, Lorraine, Thomas and Gayle. The family settled in Georgetown where she spent most of her life. Diane is predeceased by her parents Tom and Alice, her brother Steven and her sister Lorraine.
Diane was a devoted and unconditionally loving mother to Robert Martin and Kimberly Colburne (Jim). She was the loving wife, partner and friend of Martin Malcolm for 44 years. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren Nicole and Richard Martin (Jia), as well as Daniel and Sarah Colburne. She celebrated the amazing joy of welcoming and will be missed by her great grandsons Rory Martin and Isaiah Richard.
Diane and Martin were a great pair and travelled the world as amazing partners. They saw many places and lived life to the fullest. Through all the travel Diane also leaves behind friends from many places like Scotland, Florida, Wasaga Beach, Italy and South Africa. Any who met her came to know her as a kind and caring person with a common sense, forthright approach to life.
Diane had a successful career in accounting and management until she retired in 2000 from Skycharter Limited a private jet company and previously worked in public accounting. She attended and served at Knox Presbyterian church and later attended Wasaga Beach Community Church where she spent the last 20 summers. She also enjoyed her bridge and leaves a legacy of secrets to great meal preparation as she was an avid cook.
As successful as she was professionally anyone who knew her will know her true joy was her family. Her grandchildren were a particularly large part of her life and a source of great pride and love. She proudly proclaimed that being a Grandma was the best job she ever had and if she’d known it was this much fun she would have done that first. From taking the kids to Disney World, the Science Centre, sleepovers, or whatever fun or field trip they could get into she was the very model of the best a Grandparent could be.
Diane leaves a huge hole in all our lives but also a lifetime full of memories of her generous heart, infectious smile and amazing laughter. Diane was loved by all who had the pleasure to know her. We count ourselves lucky to have been blessed with her in our lives. She lived a happy full life despite a 6 year journey through metastatic breast cancer. She has left with her mark on the world and her love in our hearts.
Service details to be announced in the near future.
