Harold Perlman
It is with great sadness that his loving family announces the peaceful passing of Harold Perlman on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Beloved husband of Linda Hubscher. Devoted father and father-in-law of Janice and Peter Cohen, Monte Perlman and Randi Gilbert and the late Tamar Ostrega, and Jesseca Perlman. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Allen and Sue Perlman, and brother-in-law of Peggy and Earl Fixman, Mark and Chris Hubscher. Cherished Zaide of Jacob Cohen and Lauren Sugar, Julia, and Joshua Cohen; Charly, and Dean Perlman. Son of the late Thelma and the late Osias Perlman, and son-in-law of the late Irma and the late Bernie Clark. Harold will be fondly remembered by Judy Miller and by his nieces, nephews, family and his circle of friends.
Born into retail, his father Osias was a shopkeeper with a store on Sainte-Catherine St. called Laurel Ladies Wear where his mom Thelma worked the sales floor in her trademark stilettos. After launching his career at Dalmys at the tender age of 18, Harold rose through the ranks eventually becoming a retail executive and traveling the world as a buyer for the almost 200 store chain. In 1987, at the age of forty-five, Harold struck out on his own and founded Manteaux Manteaux. Harold was a pillar of Montreal’s garment industry since the 1960’s and was universally loved and respected for his unwavering integrity, candor and his unfailing sense of humor. On both personal and professional levels Harold’s impact was immeasurable. He positively affected the lives of countless people, and his generosity knew no bounds.
Harold lived a life inspired by his favorite song, Frank Sinatra’s “I did it my way”. He was a world class jet setter who could usually be found scouring European department stores for the latest fashions or on adventures that took him everywhere from the Amazon to Iceland. Harold had boundless energy, curiosity and loved learning. At the age of seventy-five he took up Italian lessons. At seventy-nine he began a hobby building intricate impressive Lego structures.
Harold’s zest for life was everlasting. He was an optimist who throughout his life saw the good in people and focused on silver linings. He had the unbelievable good fortune of living eighty-one years in perfect health having spent a grand total of three days in a hospital during his life. Harold’s passing was in the comfort of his own home surrounded by loved ones. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team of Dr. Maryse Fournier and Valerie Couseau from CLSC Côte-des-Neiges, and Audrey Thérien from Nova Palliative Care.
