Donald Edward Reed
Don passed away peacefully at Southbridge, Kemptville on March 25, 2023, at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley. Loving father of Wayne Reed (Belinda), Dawn Bouchard (Vince), Todd Reed (Patricia) and Debbie Lee (Stephen). Cherished Grandpa of Jenna (Jordan), Christopher, Lindsay, Andrew, Harrison and Amanda. Great-Grandfather of Austin and Levi. Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Winnifred Reed; and his sister, Elizabeth. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Don graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute and worked briefly for Northern Electric before returning to school to train as a teacher. After a number of years teaching high school in Trenton, Don moved his young family to Winchester and then to a new home in Kemptville where he and Shirley were active members of the community for more than 50 years. He was technical director at South Carleton High School for 24 years before retiring in 1993.
Don loved to car rally as a young adult, travelling throughout eastern Ontario. After his move to Kemptville, Don became an avid square dancer and caller. He was chair of the Scout/Guide Group Committee and an active member of the North Grenville Arts Guild. In his retirement, he devoted his time to his hobbies of painting, photography, and woodworking. Don travelled often to Portugal with Shirley and loved to walk his dogs in the Ferguson Forestry Centre. He was a lifelong baseball fan, first as a player in his early adulthood, then as a spectator at his daughter’s softball games, never missing a match. Many seasons he was at the opening game for the Ottawa Lynx and listened to the radio broadcasts of Blue Jays games for years. Don was an active member of the United Church in Kemptville. He loved to play bridge in the basement of the church with the Thursday night group.

A Graveside Service will be held at South Gower Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Big Sky Ranch would be appreciated.
