We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Richard Trevor Kanary, 46, of Hamilton,
on Wednesday March 22, 2023.
Richard was born on November 1st, 1976 to John and Maureen Kanary in Belleville, ON. After Richard graduated from Glenforest Secondary School, he went to the University of Toronto and then Ryerson but decided he wanted to begin his life’s adventure by acting, playing in bands, learning from chefs to create exceptional meals and also started his family which he loved with all his heart.
A big kid at heart, Richard loved spending time with his children; coaching soccer, going camping, spending time at the beach, sharing his love of animals. He adored celebrating and encouraging the magical and whimsical imaginations of his children through fantasy games like D & D, Magic the Gathering, Risk,
and Catan.
Richard had a brilliant mind and later decided to go back to school and attended McMaster University where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Arts in Sociology degrees. He was very creative through poetry and written expression and found deep meaning behind music lyrics, especially from the band Rival Sons.
He loved to learn and enjoyed debating with classmates and professors with an unstoppable passion.
Richard was predeceased by his mother Maureen, 10 years ago, whom he was very close with. He is survived by his sons Seriph Kanary (mother Jolene Lockhart) and Jackson Kanary (Mother Ashley Marrota), his former partner Kristin Parker and stepdaughter Lily, his father John Kanary, his brother Bob Kanary, his sister-in-law Linda, his niece Katerina and nephew David as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Everyone in Richard’s life will miss his kind heart, unique sense of humour, infectious laugh, hunger for knowledge, and his passion for adventure.
At this time, there will be no public service held.
The family will have a celebration of life later in the year.
