Obituary
It is with broken hearts that the of family Mary Jessie “Irene” (MacKinnon) MacNeill announces her passing which occurred at the Shannex Cohen Hall on March 24, 2023. Irene was born in South West Lot 16, PEI to the late Percy and Kathleen MacKinnon. Irene was the older of four children, three of which have previously deceased. She met her friend Jack who became her husband and they moved to Saint John, NB, where they raised their family of six children.
They were avid church goers and attended St. Joachim’s Church for 40 years, then moving to St. Joseph’s Parish.
Irene loved to cook, knit, and crochet and was a member of the St. Joachim’s CWL for over 50 years. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing cards with her family and close friends.
She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Jack of 68 years, son Randy MacNeill (Ashley) of Grove Hill, NB, daughters Karen Totten (Bruce) of Upham, NB, Janet Gardner (Reggie) of Upham, NB, Lynn Trentowsky (Kenny) of Salisbury, NB, daughter-in-law Mary Ellen MacNeill of Taylor Lake, NB, along with 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and close relatives in PEI.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two sons John and Terrance, grandson Joseph, sister Annie Perry, brothers Eric and Lloyd MacKinnon.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424), A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation an hour prior to Mass. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Rose Crossman for her years of care and kindness shown towards Irene. A special thank you to Dr. Neil Young for his care and compassion to both Irene and Jack, as well as Jolene, the staff, nurses and doctors of Shannex Cohen Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the H.O.P.E Centre or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
