Obituary
McKeown, Don, “Butch” – Peacefully passed away in his 88th year at the Georgetown Hospital on March 15th, 2023 with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Myrna (Ames) of 57 years, loving Dad of Sherry and Lisa (Mike) and the best Grandpa of Carli and Cameron Hunchak. Predeceased by his parents John and Ruth and brother Jimmy. Don and Myrna lived most of their lives in Thunder Bay. They spent quality time together walking at Centennial Park, Boulevard Lake and the Marina, as well as planning trips to Hinckley and Grand Portage. Don worked at the Thunder Bay Terminals as an electrician and at Petersen Electric prior to that. Don took great pride in his family and friends and would give his shirt of his back. He had an incredible way of making people smile and laugh. His daughters were his pride and joy and he never missed a learning opportunity to teach them anything he could. He had the most incredible amount of patience when dealing with and teaching his girls. He always spoke calmly and was pretty quiet, even when they crashed the car, got a speeding ticket, rammed their bicycle into a tree, somehow kept his blood pressure in check while teaching one to drive standard and having the other come home in a police car. He enjoyed playing crib/cards, bowling, many summers camping at Pass Lake, hanging out with his “coffee club” and could often be found puttering around in the yard or garage. He spent many hours tending to his vegetable garden, apple tree and trimming the vines. In the winter his garden became the perfect ice rink where both kids and their friends learned to skate. Spending time with his grandkids was one of his favourite things. From watching them excel in sports, to helping them with puzzles and tickling them like Nan used to. He loved apple fritters, apple pie, ok, ANYTHING with apple, but certainly NOT green beans. Our hero, you will be missed. Cremation has taken place, in lieu of flowers, donation to the Lung Association would be appreciated. To send expressions of sympathy visit www.jonesfuneralhome.co
