Obituary of Cherie Patricia McGuire
CHERIE PATRICIA McGUIRE
Passed away peacefully on March 7, 2023 one week shy of her 94th birthday. Predeceased by her parents John Budzin (1938) and Irene (Lewis) Budzin Tugwell (2000) and husband, Rev. David Rutherford McGuire (1971). Loving Mother and Mother-in-law of Mark (Michele), Sarah and Melissa and cherished Grandma to David, Scott, Madison and Victoria.
Born in Wallaceburg, Cherie is survived by her Tugwell brothers Jim (Cherrey) of Ottawa; Francis (Debbie) of New Port Richey, Florida and by David’s sisters and their families, Barbara Mann (Neil) and Maureen Munro (David) of Toronto.
Cherie trained and nursed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chatham and then pursued her nursing career in London and at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. She and David married in 1962 raising the children in various Toronto parishes of The Anglican Church of Canada. Following David’s passing, Cherie returned to Chatham and taught in the Developmental Service Worker program at St. Clair College from 1975 to 1994. As leader (and the driving force) of Christ Church’s Altar Guild, her dedication and commitment to the Anglican Church was a very important part of her life.
Cherie enjoyed travel including trips to Central & South America, the Caribbean, Florida, Hawaii and across Canada. Her love of theatre was evident to all she knew. She was past President of Theatre Kent, a founding member of Take A Bow Productions and House Manager for the Kiwanis Theatre at the Chatham Cultural Centre.
While she will be so missed by family and friends, we find peace in knowing that she had a life well-lived. We are eternally grateful to all the family and friends who supported and loved Cherie throughout her life, especially Barb, Mary Ellen and Pauline. The family extends sincere gratitude and appreciation to the entire medical team of Chatham Kent Health Alliance Floor 4A who provided exceptional care and kindness to Cherie and our family in her last days.
Cremation has taken place. Please join the family for visitation at Christ Church Anglican, 80 Wellington Street West, Chatham on Friday, March 24th from 11:30am until the celebration of life at 1:00pm. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Cherie’s memory.
