Obituary
Teri Lea Walker
Teri went home to rejoin her family on March 6th, 2023. She leaves behind her beloved son, Andrew, of whom she was very proud and loved with all her heart. Predeceased by her mother, Maida in 1976, father Ernie, and brother, Tim, both in 1992, as well as her dear friends Janet Cook in 2010 and Gloria Smith in 2017.
Survived by sister Jill and brother Gil; nieces Val (Norm), Dar (Fed), Alicia (Graham), Tori (Simon), and Sarina (Rhys); nephews Matthew, Braydon, and Brett (Cali); great niece Natalie (Chris); great nephews Brandon (Madeleine), Joshua, Lucas, Brady, Ares, Rain, and Luca; great-great nephew George as well as godson, Ryan (Jodean).
Teri was born in Selkirk in 1950 and was raised in Petersfield. In 1961 the family moved to Selkirk. She worked at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre from 1968 until 1987 when she and Andrew moved to Gimli. Once there, she started an in-home day care which she really enjoyed. She considered the children she looked after as “her kids”, always enjoyed hearing about them and catching up with them throughout the years.
In 1999 she moved to Elma to be closer to her sister Jill, and started to work for Home Care. She had discovered another job that brought her great joy and would create lifelong friendships.
In the fall of 2000, in addition to working Home Care, she started work at the local Nursery School in Whitemouth. Being back working with children again made her happy and brought her so much joy.
She would later get involved with the Whitemouth Health Auxiliary, for which she served as president for 12 years. Her volunteering would continue with the Whitemouth Library, where she was able to share her lifelong love of reading.
In addition to reading books, Teri enjoyed a variety of music, television, and movies. She had a great love for animals, having many beloved pets throughout the years.
Special thanks to the friends, home care providers, doctors, nurses, and health care staff who cared for Teri.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial of Teri’s life will be held Friday, March 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Teri’s memory may be made to the Whitemouth Health Auxiliary, P.O. Box 332, Whitemouth, MB, R0E 2G0.
Teri always tried to do the right things in her life. She wanted only the best for people and for them to be happy. This sometimes got her in trouble!
When Teri lost a family member or friend, she was of the belief that they were always around, watching and guiding, and if you listened hard enough, they would guide you through your life.
Now it’s her turn! So, listen hard for she has things to tell you!
