It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Vincent Walsh at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in
St. Albert, Alberta on December 13, 2024.
Vincent (Vince or Vinnie as he was known to most) was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Annie Walsh, his wife Florence, his eldest son Craig and great grandson Blueberry Springer. Vince was also predeceased by all of his siblings, numerous brothers and sisters in law and some nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his son Deon (Val) Walsh, son Chad Walsh and Tanya McLean. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Tanya (Steve) Craig, Amanda Clift (Greg Petruk), Jessica (Larry) Buchanan, Matthew Walsh, Taylor Walsh, Brody Walsh and great grandchildren Marley Craig, Emery Craig and Arianna Maxwell, sisters and brothers in law Eileen (Don) Stuckless, Maxine Stride (Derek Luff), Ina Blake, Judy Tarrant, Stella Reid as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
For those who knew Vince they can attest to his calm, caring and loving nature always referring to everyone as “my love”. Everyone enjoyed conversations with him and he left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Vince’s first love was for his family and he looked forward to every opportunity to spend time with them whether that was visiting at home, having camp cook ups or making them his famous homemade Pizza’s, Vinnie burgers or homemade fries. While cooking for the family, he was always sure to have a dozen wieners on the BBQ as an appetizer. When someone would go to get one, Vince would say, your just in time as there’s just one left as he’d already eaten the rest. Vince had a passion for fishing and enjoyed spending time with his boys catching fish and cooking shore lunches. Even after Vince moved to Alberta, he looked forward to spending time at the lake during the summer with his family and a fishing pole in his hands.
Vince’s first job was driving cab in Gander NL where he met the love of his life, Florence. He then worked for the Department of Highways in Newfoundland. The family then moved to Sudbury, ON where he worked in a Nickle Mine. Family obligations brought the family back to Newfoundland where he then went to work for Newfoundland Hydro until the family decided to move to Alberta. He held other positions until he started his own janitorial business in 1998. In around 2009 him and Florence decided to retire and Newfoundland called them to come home. We will always remember a saying Dad had during his working career – whether it is the head of a company or a worker on the floor, you treat them all with the same respect.
After Florence passed away, it was decided amongst the family it would be best for Vince to move out to Alberta and live with Chad his youngest son. It was during this time that their bond strengthened and we used to joke they were more like a couple versus father and son. Vince would look forward to Chad coming home from work so he could jump on his scooter and Chad on his E-Bike and go touring the neighbourhood visiting with friends. During hockey season there was always constant banter in the house between Chad and Brody who were Oiler fans and Vince who had been a Montreal Canadian fan all his life. This made for crazy antics.
While Vince is gone, his family is left with amazing memories for years to come of a truly special man.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and nurses at the Sturgeon Community Hospital and a special thank you to his family doctor, Darryl LaBuick.
As Vince held a special place in his heart for animals, donations can be made in his memory to the Edmonton Humane Society.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with details to follow.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home.
