It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nonna, and Bisnonna, Carmela Morreale “Melina” (nee Scime), who peacefully passed away on November 20, 2024, at the age of 89. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Croce Morreale, who predeceased her in 2004.
Carmela will be lovingly remembered by her children: Lillian Cacioppo (Mario), Angela Matteliano (late Salvatore), Rosemary Brum (Victor), and Salvatore Morreale. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Luigi (Samantha), Cristoforo (Katherine), Brock (Andrea), Andre (Tawnya), Mario Jr, (Maxi), Michael, Salvatore (Kendra), Melina (Robert), Chris, Julia and 9 great grandchildren.
She was the loving sister of the late Sister Maria Barbara and the late Salvatore Scime (Pasqualina). Carmela will also be missed by her sisters-in-law: Antonina Alfano (late Francesco), Maria Cino (late Salvatore), Pietra Restivo (late Carmelo), Nicolina Romano (late Rosario), and her many nieces and nephews in both Canada and Italy.
Carmela was predeceased by her parents Giuseppe and Angela Scime, her parents-in-law Salvatore and Calogera Morreale, her sister and brother-in-law Vincenza and Vincenzo Matteliano, and her sister-in-law Rosalia Morreale.
Carmela was a gentle soul, a constant source of wisdom for her children, and never hesitated to speak her mind. She loved playing cards and was hard to beat at Scopa. She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, and cooking, all while faithfully keeping up with her daily soap operas.
We will miss her with every beat of our hearts.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Savetteri and Dr. Douglas Wright for their compassionate care, as well as to the staff at the Heart Function Clinic at the General Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bay Gardens Funeral Home (1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington). A visitation will be held on November 27, from 2–4 pm & 7–9 pm at Bay Gardens. A service will take place on November 28, beginning at 1:00 pm at Bay Gardens Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Bayview Cemetery & Mausoleum, 740 Spring Garden Rd., Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or Diabetes Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
