Frederick Richard Hill, late of Regina, SK, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Pasqua Hospital, at the age of 88 years.
He was born on August 3, 1936, to James and Alice Hill in Saskatoon, SK. Fred attended Princess Alexandra and Albert Elementary Schools. He attended high school at Bedford Road, where he was voted by his peers to Senior Watch (School President). Fred then went on to the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with his Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also received his Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Regina. Fred married Beverley Rita Hill on August 6, 1960, and they had three children: Fred, Glen, and Sandra. He worked loyally at Sask. Power in Estevan, Saskatoon, and Regina for 36 years. Fred enjoyed playing golf and was a member for over 20 years of the Seniors league at Flowing Springs Golf Greens. He was also an avid curler filling many leadership roles within several curling clubs: President of the Hub City Curling Club, Director of the Estevan Curling Club, and President of the Regina Curling Club. Fred represented Saskatchewan at the Seniors National Curling Championships finishing second but was chosen as a first team all-star. When representing Saskatchewan at the National Masters Curling, he became a Canadian Champion. Fred enjoyed multiple fishing trips with friends and family. His favourite meal was “pickerel on a paddle.”
He is survived by sons Fred (Helene), and Glen (Karen); daughter Sandra (Darwin); six grandsons (James, Cole, Piers, Alex, Austin, and Dylan); one granddaughter (Brooke); and two great-grandsons (Bentley and Boston). Fred was predeceased by his wife Bev; parents James and Alice; brother James (Marj); and sisters Gladys (Tom) and Jean (Norman).
Fred was a quiet and kind man that could often surprise people with his dry humour and jokes at a party at the drop of a hat. He worked tirelessly to provide his family with the opportunity to chase their athletic and life dreams. Fred will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Now he is rejoined with Bev, who he has had to live without for the last three and a half years.
Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Nico Deschner officiating. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 810 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK.
Memorial donations may be made to Regina Palliative Home Care, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 1A5, for the loving care they provided Bev prior to her death, or to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, #200-4545 Parliament Avenue, Regina, SK S4W 0G3.
