Obituary of Mary Louise Hutt
Mary Louise Lowther (Hutt) was born to Charles Walter Lowther and Audrey Loretta Lowther (Downing) on January 28, 1940, in Windsor, Ontario. Mary had two older sisters Adele (Duffy) and Patricia (Dye).
Mary passed while she was at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Saturday, November 16 at the age of 84. Loving wife to Sandford Carl Hutt for 63 years. She was the proud mother of Kim Hutt-Taylor (Stephen), Carl Hutt (Laurie), and Cameron Hutt (Catherine). She was predeceased by her eldest sister Adele. Pat Dye at the young age of 91 was still enjoying regular conversations with her little sister. Mary will be missed by her six grandchildren – Stephanie (Dylan), Kayleigh (Jérémy), Joshua, Cameron, Dylan and Tyson, and the newly arrived great grandchild Stevie! She will be deeply missed by her many friends and relatives.
She was a talented athlete – participating on the U of T varsity Synchronized swimming team and later joined the U of T varsity volleyball team. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed the courts well into her seventies.
She was a very caring teacher with her primary focus on high school English, but later getting involved in the Adult Learning Program for the late bloomers. It was common for Mary to be recognized while shopping by one or more students wherever she would go. She was revered for her passionate teaching style.
Mary was a member of the JOY band with her husband and seated in the clarinet section. Betty Ferris was an awesome band leader for the group and Neil Kennedy was an instrumental advocate for Mary and others that wanted to attain tier one status.
Do Si Do, Allemande left, and Circle right were common terms heard while dancing up a storm with her husband. They needed to travel a few kilometers south for the pleasure of square dancing, and it was worth it to have an awesome caller and a group of familiar friends to participate with.
The mailman would provide a friendly hello and smile while delivering the mail to the window watcher. This large window view would be a gateway to the outside world for Mary while she was preparing meals, entertaining guests, or any other excuse to be in the kitchen. She was well known, respected and revered in the neighborhood having roots in this home for 56 years!
You could always find The Backyard Bird journal on her piano ready to be viewed while taking in the new birds that were flocking north. There was no shortage of red pileated woodpecker stories among blue jays, robins, hummingbirds, et. al. The chipmunks and squirrels provided the side entertainment while watching the birds.
It was always interesting to hear how her golf day was. All the pros were talking about the challenges of the course with water traps and a couple of extra strokes here and there. Mary would come back with all the nature stories of the squirrels on the ninth, the rabbit on the twelfth and the turtle on the sixteenth. Not sure if she even kept her score!
Mary would co-pilot for the adventurous trips with her husband while exploring new routes and taking in the nature scenes along the way. Of course, it was mandatory to stop for fish and chips at Jocko Point, waffles and whipped cream at Burger World and have a snack at Ivan’s before filling up for more gas on the reserve at the Native price!
Walks at the Government dock were always a pleasure. The Carousel and Heritage Museum were a short step away and the sunsets were spectacular. Although the walks got shorter over the years, the visual pleasure was always prevalent.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 28, 2025 @ 2:00 pm hosted by Martyn Funeral Home.
