John William “Billie” Roach Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John William (Billie) Roach of Moncton. Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and family patriarch who passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on November 12, 2024, at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Main River, New Brunswick on June 18, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian (Fahey) Roach.
He will be sadly missed by the love of his life, his wife of 68 years Audrey (Markey) Roach. By his children Mike, Connie (Jeff) Geddes, Tim (Patty), Rick (Darcy) and Dan (Sherri). His grandchildren Tom (Jessica), Tyler, Jillian (Dom) Poirier, Bobbie Lynn, Melissa (Ian), Becky, Jessica (Bill) Melee, Aimee, Robert (Jessica) Smith, Courtney (Marco) Poirier and Billy. He will be dearly missed by his 14 great grandchildren, Dustin, Harlen, Rya, Hayden, Sawyer, Maverick, Olivia, Emmett, Lilly, Audrey, Maxime, Maya, Lawson and Ryker and brother-in-law Gerald Markey. He was also a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Gerald (Myrtle) his sisters Helen (Edwin) Hudson and Kathryn (Harry) Larson and his sister-in-law Barbra Markey.
Billie worked at CNR for 38 years as a station agent and telegrapher. In retirement, he spent his summers at his camp in Main River, always with grand children in tow. In later years, he looked forward to the weekends when the great grandchildren would show up and fill the chairs at the kitchen table. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spent many mornings enjoying coffee with his CN friends and Kent County neighbor’s. A Kent County historian, he could recall names and stories of times long passed with ease.
His warmth, generosity and sharp sense of humour will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Let us remember his laughter, his stories and the love he so freely gave. He will forever reside in our hearts guiding us with his enduring love.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Moncton City Hospital.
