It is with sadness that Mark, Christine and Darrin announce the passing of our Mom – Bonnie Janice Aina Guenette (née Wood) on November 10, 2024. Bonnie was born on January 13, 1942, in Cochrane, Ontario to loving parents William and Christine Wood (née Roxburgh) both predeceased. Her siblings, brother William (Bill) and wife Jeannette (both predeceased), sister Jeanne Mitchell and husband William (Bill) Mitchell (both predeceased).
She is survived by first born son Mark Guenette and wife Ellie, their two children Jennifer Berezowski (Sheldon) and Bryson Guenette. Great Grandchildren Scarlett and Hannah.
She is also survived by her daughter Christine Rice (Tim predeceased 2015) and their family.
She is also survived by her son Darrin Guenette and wife Katie. His two children Maddison and Kylie and Katie’s son Joshua.
Our mother also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who stayed in touch with her throughout the years.
Our mother began her business career in Sudbury with Dravo, Rainbow Concrete and ended her career with Northern Cable Services (now Eastlink). She enjoyed her time working on the family’s ancestry and spent hours of her day searching and validating documents going back several generations to the early 1500’s. A wonderful legacy. Our mother also stayed true to her faith and was proud of the time she spent volunteering. True to her character, she never allowed her kidney failure or congestive heart failure determine the time she had left on earth. She defied the odds to the end.
We would like to thank the staff and Doctors at North Shore Health Network and Dr’s Costa Vitali & Ratner. It took a village to keep our Mom in her beloved apartment with help from PSW’s through NSHN’s Assisted Living Program (Naomi), Renee & Heidi at Mitchell’s Pharmacy, Pat from A Touch of Home and her personal caregiver Annette Roach. It gave us comfort to know that her community in Blind River rallied around her.
As per our Mom’s request, there will not be any visitation. Direct cremation will take place, and we will bring our mother home to Cochrane, Ontario to rest with her parents at a later date.
In memory of our mother, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
