Renee Jeanne Bourque
1964-2023
On
Saturday, March 4, we said farewell to Renee Bourque, a woman of
strength, wisdom, heart and impeccable style. Renee was born and
raised in Sluice Point, Yarmouth County by her warm and loving rural
Acadian family. The youngest of five children, Renee enjoyed
long-lasting relationships with relatives, neighbours, and guests. She
grew up in a home where the door was always open, the music was
lively, the chowder was délicieuse, and love was abundant.
At the age of 38, Renee moved to L’Arche Homefires where she shared
this strong sense of community with her new friends at Lighthouse and
Discoveries. At L’Arche, Renee explored her passion for
drumming, dancing, art, celebrations, and remote-control negotiations.
She was a woman of conviction and careful attention to detail. She
never hesitated to speak her mind, to stand up for her friends, to
claim her favourite chair, and to take all the time she needed to
fully enjoy every moment. It took patience, good humour, and respect
to earn Renee’s trust. Many describe the first wave or blown
kiss they received from Renee as a rite of passage and a sign they had
earned a loyal friend for life. Renee had a rich spiritual life and
loved going to church. She prayed earnestly for loved ones, ensured
every meal started with grace, and shared thoughtful appreciations at
birthdays and anniversaries. Renee was the daughter of Adelbert and
Jacqueline Bourque. She is survived by siblings, Jerry (Julia)
Bourque, Suzanne (Chris) Pelham, Dave (Bernadette) Bourque, and Eric
Bourque. She is also remembered by several nieces, nephews, and family
and friends from her rural community. Renee indelibly changed the life
of many L’Arche community members. Some lived and journeyed
with her until her final day and countless others grieve and honour
her memory with stories streaming in from around the world. Our
heartfelt thank you to the emergency and ICU staff at Valley Regional
Hospital for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held on
Thursday, March 9 from 12-2 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. The funeral will also take place in White Family Funeral
Home on Friday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m. A video webcast of the service
will be available. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to L’Arche Homefires, 341
Main Street, Wolfville, NS B4P 2N5. Online Donations via Canada
