Obituary For Laurie D Gronhovd
December 19, 1962 – November 3, 2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of Laurie Gronhovd after a long battle with cancer on November 3, 2024.
Laurie’s childhood was spent on the Gronhovd farm outside Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She enjoyed her years at LCBI High School in Outlook, SK, where she made lifelong friends.
Laurie touched the lives of many, most notably during her 30 year career in the Co-op CRS. Laurie’s leadership journey started at the gas bar in her hometown of Shaunavon, SK. While in this position, she took the initiative to undergo general manager training, which proved to be a life-changing decision. Her career blossomed, taking her from several small towns in Southern Saskatchewan to Northern BC, and finally, to Grande Prairie in 2006, where she worked as General Manager at New Horizon Co-op until she retired earlier this year due to her illness. Laurie loved being a leader, and was grateful to be a mentor to many and create meaningful friendships through her work at Co-op.
Outside of work, Laurie enjoyed going for walks, spending time with her dog Pete, and doing crafts. Laurie will be remembered for her resilience, kindness, humour, and her amazing ability to find gratitude through adversity.
Laurie is survived by her spouse of 24 years Don, her daughter Kelsey (Adrian), her grandchild Violet, her father Ken, her siblings Wanda (Robyn), Curtis (Lorie) and Carol (Tex) as well as her nieces and nephews.
Laurie is predeceased by her mother Sheila Gronhovd, and her late husband Rusty Allen.
The family would like to thank the numerous healthcare professionals who have assisted and cared for Laurie throughout the past 5 years.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie on November, 14 at 11am. Please join us to share memories and enjoy a luncheon after the service.
