Brian Edward Greyling Obituary
Brian Greyling, born on March 30, 1959, in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, yet having lived most of his life in Kingston, Ontario, passed away on October 31st, 2024. With many thanks to the amazing staff at the Kingston General Hospital, Brian received amazing care and support which sustained his desire to fight and maintain a positive attitude and outlook on life even through his final days.
Brian will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sarah Greyling, Cassandra (Michael) Greyling, and Timothy (Cassandra) Greyling, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Lexington, Addilyn, Beckett, Everleigh and Brooklyn. Predeceased by his parents, Bill and Jean Greyling, Brian is survived by his siblings, Rodney (Xin), Owen (Sue), Wendy, and Adrian (Shawna), along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, who will fondly recall their time with him. He will also be remembered by former wife, Susie (Jim) and former son in law, Adam. Brian dedicated nearly thirty years of his career to the Kingston Whig Standard Newspaper and another fifteen years to Mr. Sub, where he was known for his strong work ethic, commitment, and good conversation. Outside of work, he cherished spending time with his family and was particularly devoted to spoiling his grandchildren and grand-puppies. A man of faith, Brian was diligent in reading the scriptures and staying informed about the world around him. He found joy in simple pleasures, including sweets, Boston cream doughnuts, his mother’s curry chicken, and was rarely seen without a cup of coffee or diet pop, and often paired with a bowl of ice cream.
Brian enjoyed sharing his musical talents, whether he was playing the piano or organ for weekly church services, special occasions, family holidays, or simply playing and singing along to John Denver and Elton John’s greatest hits for fun. Brian’s musical gifts will be remembered by many. Brian’s loving spirit and genuine care for others made a lasting impact on those around him. His generosity often extended to neighborhood children and anyone in need of a helping hand. His family and friends will remember him as a devoted parent, grandfather, sibling, and son who embraced everyone he met with warmth and compassion. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on the 10th of November from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston. The funeral service will take place on the 11th of November at 2:00 pm with the reception to follow at the James Reid Reception Center.
