Cocagne, NB – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo Girouard 84, on Sunday March 5th, 2023 after a long courageous battle with cancer. In his last month, he was being cared for at the Albert House Hospice in Moncton. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family, in the arms of his only daughter, his # 1
Leo will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Robin Girouard of Burlington, MA; the mother of his daughter, Lorraine Girouard of Burlington, MA., his three sisters: Anna (Jean-Paul) Goguen of Moncton, Aline (Roger) Dallaire of Waltham, MA, and Fernande (Yvon) Maillet of Dixon Point; his three brothers: Paul (Florence) Girouard of Holiday, FL, Alfred (Chong) Girouard of Hudson, FL, and Guy (Simonne) Girouard of Burlington, MA., his special friends: Adella Pellerin and Marguerite Allain, several nieces and nephews, his dog Heidi, and his grand-dog Diesel
Born in Saint-Antoine, he was the son of the late Ferdinand and the late Béatrice Girouard (Goguen). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Edna LeBlanc; and his brother-in-law, Gordon “Gordie” LeBlanc.
Leo was an engineer in the US Army, and he was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the New England Teamsters and Trucking Industry. Leo was a loyal employee with UPS for 33 years. He started as a “Brownie”, and then moved up to driving double-trailers. In the 80s and 90s he loved to play hockey in the Old Timers league. He was an avid golfer and loved meeting friends and family on the golf course. After retiring in Cocagne, Leo enjoyed traveling to Florida for a few months in the winter. In the last few years, you could often find him playing cards in Notre-Dame and St-Antoine. During the summers, he spent many hours working in his garden and his beautiful yard.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Moncton Albert House Hospice for their exceptional and loving care, and Dr. McNally, who is our hero. A special extra thank-you to Betty Ann Boucher, Paula Girouard and Jeff Dallaire for their unconditional love and support. Thank you to family and friends who visited and prayed for Leo. Your support meant a lot.
In respect to Leo’s wishes, there will be no visitation and no funeral service.
