Obituary For Sylvia Gertrude Marceau
October 11, 1941 – October 17, 2024
Sylvia Marceau passed away unexpectedly at the age of 83 at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital on October 17, 2024.
Sylvia was born October 11, 1941, in Unity, Saskatchewan to parents Richard and Rosa Meynberg. Sylvia was the last living sibling before her passing, and the youngest of 5 children. Her siblings were Walter Meynberg (wife Elsie), Dick Meynberg (wife Katie), Bill Meynberg (wife Kathleen), and Louise Olsen (husband Carl).
Sylvia’s parents immigrated from Germany to Canada and Sylvia grew up on a small farm north of Artland, Saskatchewan. Sylvia’s dad, Richard passed away in September of 1974, and Sylvia’s mom, Rosa passed away in July of 1991.
Sylvia moved to Grande Prairie to pursue her nursing career where she worked at the old Pioneer Hospital for many years. It was a love and passion of Sylvia’s to care for and help people which came so naturally to Sylvia. Even after retiring from nursing, Sylvia continued being a caregiver for her mother for 16 years until her mom’s passing.
Sylvia met her late husband Louis Marceau, and they married November 4, 1961, and were married for 52 years until Louis passed away on February 25, 2013, at the age of 76. Sylvia and Louis had 2 children, Debbie, the eldest, and Naomi (husband Kevin), the youngest. Debbie passed away in April of 2018, at the age of 55 after battling cancer.
Sylvia was extremely excited to be a grandma to Naomi’s two children Matheu and Kimberly Gray. Matheu married his wife Reanne, and they have a 3-year-old son named Revan. Sylvia always mentioned how happy she was to live long enough to see her great grandchild.
Sylvia was so loved by everyone who met her and knew her, and she will be dearly missed by everyone. Her memorial service will be on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm. It will be held at 10135 128 avenue, Grande Prairie, AB., T8V 1X9.
