Alfreda Hussey, age 88, of Port de Grave, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Center on October 15, 2024, Born on May 7, 1936, at Black Duck Pond, Coley’s Point, she was the daughter of the late Robert Sr. and Hilda (Russell) Thompson.
Alfreda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. She married the love of her life, William “Harold” Hussey in 1953, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Alfreda was known for her warm laughter, generous spirit, and unwavering support for her family. She found joy in baking, crocheting, knitting, and her grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as “Fread.”
Throughout her life, Alfreda was actively involved in her church community. As a member of the United Church Women, she participated in various fundraisers, fellowship events and visits with the elderly. In later years, she enjoyed the worship and fellowship of drive-in services and community events at the Port de Grave Pentecostal Tabernacle. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be remembered for her ability to make everyone feel special.
Alfreda is survived by her two children, Diane (Ronald) Bishop and Thomas Hussey; her five grandchildren, Dawn (Keith), Sheldon (Ashley), Stephen (Noelle), Dustin (Amanda), and Dane; her six great-grandchildren, Keiona, Devon, Savanah, Caden, Liam, and Ava; her great-great grandson, Koen; and her beloved brother, Robert (Martha) Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hussey; sister, Eva (David) Crane; Brothers, Bert (June) Thompson, and John (Audrey) Thompson; and her granddaughter Sonya.
Visitation will take place at Slade’s Funeral Home, L.T. Stick Drive, Bay Roberts on Saturday, October 19: 2-5pm and 7-9 pm; and Sunday, October 20: 2-5 pm and 7-9pm. A celebration of Alfreda’s life will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 2 PM at the Port de Grave Pentecostal Tabernacle. Interment will follow at the United Church Cemetery, Port de Grave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Port de Grave United Church Cemetery Fund.
Alfreda Hussey – Freda, Fread, Nana, Nanny, and Mom – will be deeply missed, but will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
