Obituary For Kiera Jane Smith
June 27, 2007 – October 7, 2024
It is with deep sadness we share the untimely passing of our beautiful Kiera Jane Smith born on June 27, 2007, at just 17 years of age. On October 7th, 2024, Kiera left us to join her mother Shanda Ferguson, her Grandpa Blair, Grandma Verna, Auntie Shelly and Justice at rest. Kiera was passionate and vocal about the MMIW movement making sure to educate many of those around her and kept herself deep-rooted in her indigenous culture and beliefs, often indulging herself in the teachings of elders and sharing her knowledge with those around her looking for something to believe in. She boasted about one day becoming a cardio thoracic surgeon, so she could fix broken hearts, and with no doubt had been smart enough to become one, as she also studied in her own time how the brain works and psychology, with her age meaning nothing when it came to her understanding of life around her. She was one who enjoyed feeling her emotions and you always knew what she was feeling with the music she expressed herself with. She had a way about her that brought smiles and laughter to all who were around her with her ability to be silly and not have a care in the world who was watching. Kiera loved experimenting with makeup and dressing up. She made you think about the deeper things in life and challenged those around her in their beliefs. Kiera often danced like no one was watching and sang as though angels lived within her lungs. She could be found breaking out into song at random, going on adventures, often enjoying late night drives with her siblings singing loudly and unapologetically. Kiera always made those closest to her feel special by checking in on them frequently, giving the best and most supportive advice to those she cared about. When passionate about something she could talk about it for hours finding many different intriguing angles to keep you interested in what she had to say. She will be incredibly missed by her sisters Chelsey (Amber) and her son Cody, Jessica and her brothers Jacob, Elijah, Sam and Owen. As well as her father Dean Smith, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends she made along her journey.
The family will be hosting a private wake and funeral to celebrate the life of Kiera.
