George Michelin Jerrett Obituary
Passed peacefully away at his home in St. John’s, NL on September 27, 2024, George Michelin Jerrett, formally of Brigus, aged 93 years.
Predeceased by parents Ernest and Ruth (Michelin) Jerrett; brothers: Wilbert (Mary), David (Georgie) and Charles; sisters: Grace (Merton), Mary (Tom), Marion, Dana (Tom) and Betty; sisters-in-law: Irene (Ray) Davis, Kena Lake and Gertrude Rideout.
Leaving to mourn his wife of 66 years, Janet (Rideout); daughters: Ruth (Byron Stacey), Joanne (Larry Sharpe) and Catherine (Rob) Gladney; grandchildren: Jonathan, Rebecca (Anthony), Alexandre (Keisha), Nicholas (Kendra), Shawna (Chad) and Leah (Andrew); also, a large circle of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also leaving to mourn are his sisters: Ruth, Patricia, Linda (Mick) and Nancy (Charles); brothers-in-law: Percy (Dorothy) and Wayne Lake; sister-in-law Mary Jerrett.
George was born and educated in Brigus, a town dear to his heart. He often referred to it as beautiful Brigus. He was an active member of the community, a member of the volunteer fire brigade, mayor of Brigus, St. George’s Anglican Church and Brigus Blueberry Festival.
He was a man of great wit who loved to tell a good joke and made many people laugh.
He was very proud of his accomplishments with the seat belt legislation while employed with the department of transportation as Highway Safety Officer.
Many thanks to Angel of Hope caregivers Victor and Korey who cared for him with great compassion and respect.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Visitation will take place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Tuesday October 1, 2024 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm.
A funeral service will be held in the Barrett’s Chapel on Wednesday October 2, 2024 at 2pm.
Interment will take place at a later date.
