It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Joseph Paul Landry of Dartmouth, with his loving wife beside him. His death occurred at the Veteran’s Building in Halifax on December 29, 2022, at the age of 67 years.
Born in Halifax on November 6, 1955, he was the son of Mary Chlotilda “Tillie” (Samson) Landry of Petit de Grat, and the late Joseph Colin Landry.
Paul was employed at Farmers Dairy, Bedford, for 33 years, retiring nine years ago.
During his time with us, Paul enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed nature: woodlands, fishing the Margaree River, spreading a line in Cabo San Lucas, golfing, and coaching minor hockey. Let’s not forget Paul’s support of the Montreal Canadiens!
Cooking was a specialty of Paul’s. He enjoyed taking delight in sharing his fabulous meals and snacks to both family and friends. And he loved his mum’s pies!
The sounds of music were a big part of Paul’s life. He loved to play the guitar around a campfire and at family gatherings.
Paul always gave of himself to help his neighbors. With a tape measure and hammer, Paul was always available to give a helping hand to any project.
In all his endeavors and trips he and Ethel took over the years, the communities of Petit de Grat and Margaree were never far from his sights.
His compassion to all, friendships cultivated with co – workers and neighbors, his laughter, his positivity in the goodness of life and his faith will be cherished and remembered. His memories will live on with smiles and gratitude.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Ethel (Tompkins) Landry; only child, Charlotte Landry, Dartmouth, his mother, ‘Tillie’, Petit de Grat, brother Clinton Landry (Lucy), Arichat; sisters Darlene M. Landry-Samson (Roy), Louisdale, and Lisa Babin (Boyd), West Arichat. Paul is also survived by his Tompkins family: Debbie (Robert) Ferguson, Margie (Steve) MacLennan, Jackie (Alex) Leblanc, Shauna (Darren) Parsons, his brother-in-law and friend Keith (Faye) Tompkins. Paul also took incredible interest and love for all his nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and God – children.
Besides his father, Colin, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law John and Annabelle (McDaniel) Tompkins.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Paul’s private care givers: Dale, Lori Ann, Kayla and Michele – a pillar of support to Paul and Ethel. We are also appreciative of Northwood Homecare workers, the Twin Oaks Hospital staff and Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital (5 – West). Thank you for being there for Paul.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday evening, January 13, 2023, from 7-9 pm in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, Petit de Grat on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11 am, with Rev. John DeCoste officiating. Burial to follow in the Star of the Sea Cemetery, Petit de Grat.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society (NS) or Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Gardens.
