Obituary of Jim Chown
It is with sadness the family of James Duncan Chown announce his passing on September 6, 2024, at his home in Sus, NB.
Born February 2, 1931, in Kierstead Mountain, NB; he was the son of the late Myles D. and Mabel (Parlee) Chown.
James worked as a carpenter for his father’s company for many years. He worked as a salesman for Lounsbury Furniture and doing mine maintenance at the Dennison mine. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sus, as well as a past deacon of the Sus Baptist Church.
James could repair most anything and if it needed to be built, he could do that too. He spent many weekends enjoying his cottage at Cambridge Narrows. He enjoyed trips on his 4-wheeler, working on vehicles and spending precious time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed trips to Florida, across Canada and around the Maritimes.
James is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Edna (Colpitts) Chown; his daughter, Joanne (Douglas) Wortman and two sons: Steven Chown and Mark (Melissa) Chown; his grandchildren: Corey Wortman, Kerry (Hester) Wortman, Monica Chown, Merick Chown; as well as great grandchildren: Danton, Nova and Aurora; step grandchildren: Josh and Sophia (Connelly). He is survived by three brothers: Murton, Leonard and Beverly (Rosemary) Chown; his sister, Sheila (John) Warren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, James was predeceased by three sisters: Janice, Janet and Jeanette; four brothers: Reginald, Gary, Myles E. and Morris.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive Sus, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 4-7pm. The Zion Lodge No. 21 F&AM will hold a tribute at 7:00pm.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2025 at 2:00pm at the Sus Baptist Church. The interment will follow at Keirstead Mountain Cemetery.
Donations made to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Donations and personal condolences to the family may be made through www.wallacefuneralhome.com
