Sharon Anne Beveridge Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sharon Anne Beveridge (nee Long), who left us peacefully on September 2, 2024, after a short, but significant illness. Sharon’s boundless capacity for love and laughter, along with her joyful approach to life, embraced everyone she met with warmth, humor, and kindness.
Born on December 31, 1939, to Dr. J. Edwin and Louise Long, Sharon was the youngest of three sisters – predeceased by Lindy Stewart and Mary-Lou Jarvis. Sharon’s spirit will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 58 years, Col. John R. Beveridge, and their children and grandchildren: Anne Beveridge (James Becker and Frieda Becker), Andrew Beveridge (Mia Batchelor, Karsten and Ella Beveridge, Ace and Benjamin Batchelor), and Christopher Beveridge (Robin, née Fonger, Emma, Massey, and Liam Beveridge). As a military family, Sharon and John have deep roots in Kingston with friends who shared that part of their life. We owe so much to those friends who supported our mother and father over the past few months. Auntie Sharon also holds a special place in the hearts of her nieces, nephews, godchildren, and their extended families.
Growing up in Toronto’s “Beach” neighborhood, Sharon developed a remarkable talent for connecting with people from all walks of life. Her innate musicality led her to Ontario Ladies College, where she nurtured her passion for music. She then attended the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education to pursue a true vocation teaching young children. A gifted educator and musician, Sharon inspired countless young minds throughout her career as a beloved teacher.
Sharon’s dedication to her community was unwavering. In addition to years spent volunteering at Almost Home in Kingston, she served as choir director and organist at St. Mark’s Church, Barriefield, until the spring of this year. Her love for children, her vibrant spirit, and her deep faith touched many lives.
A true friend, Sharon was known for her loyalty, generosity, and infectious sense of fun and laughter. Her presence brightened every room she entered, and her absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
We take comfort in knowing that Sharon is at peace and that her spirit will continue to shine in our hearts. Her legacy of love and joy will remain with us forever. We all love you so much and are grateful our lives were touched by yours.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm at St. Mark’s Anglican Church Barriefield, 268 Main Street, Kingston.
For memorial donations, please consider Almost Home or St Mark’s Barriefield Anglican Church.
