Dieter Bidner
April 5, 1942 – August 31, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dieter. Dieter bravely faced cancer for the second time and though he survived his surgery his heart took a different beat as he succumbed to cardiac arrest.
Dieter was born in Germany, the son of the late Simon Bidner and the late Lilo Bidner (nee Voigt) the Beloved husband of 26 years (together for over 35) to Betty Martin-Bidner (nee Shane)
Beloved brother to Renata Sutherland (and the late Graeme) and Astrid Barber (Jim).
Together they loved their children, Christian Bidner (Ann), Tim Martin (Jennie), Terry Martin (Jan), Kelly Martin and Angela Douglas.
He cherished his role of Papa to Emilie, (Sam Agnew), Alisha, Jamie, Cole, TJ (Laura), Jesse (Carrie-Anne) and Great Papa to Kaitlyn, Keenan, Kyleigh, Aislynn, Finleigh, Noah, Adalyn, Luka, Jack, Everleigh, Blake and Logan.
Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Tim (Kelly), Chris (Fran), Ian (Meghan) and Peter (Pasquale) and cherished by so many nieces and nephews of the Shane family from the Newburgh, Ontario area.
His career comprised of working in Africa as a Tropical Agriculturist Consultant for 23 years and later he worked 20 years at Global Med in Trenton as a Supervisor.
Dieter had a love for the outdoors, camping with his wife, Betty, and family year after year as a family tradition in many provincial parks throughout the Province, with favourites being Algonquin and Presqu’ile. He and Betty were long standing volunteers of the Friends of Presqu’ile and were part of the Friends of Algonquin.
His grandchildren will remember papa Dieter and his incredible life stories around the campfire, hiking the trails, endlessly driving in Algonquin in search of moose, bear and wolf sightings, canoe trips with family and making incredible memories every year that his children and grandchildren will cherish always.
Dieter has left an incredible legacy, a man loved by each and every person who was blessed to call him a friend, which is an abundant number collected for more than 30 years at Rock Lake in Algonquin Park, gathering year after year with old friends and his “morning old boys club” who sat on their bench at the shore of Rock Lake drinking coffee and feeding the geese at sunrise. He loved the Wakami Wailers concerts in the outdoor Theatre at Algonquin for more than thirty years and he and his wife Betty celebrated their Honeymoon camping in Rock lake where Ontario Parks staff had a bottle of Champaign awaiting them on their campsite.
He was a man who loved the Montreal Canadiens and was an avid hockey fan volunteering for the Trenton Golden Hawks and the Wellington Dukes for more than 15 years combined.
Take a walk through the forest. What do you see? Birch of silver and pine of green, tall trees growing and rivers flowing on … to the sea … Winding trails, through the forest, along the shore, while life fades to a setting sun, campfire glowing the day is done …The day is done. All my life I will think of you and my children will share the view that you bear … we’ll be there.
Waltz with the woods Dieter until we paddle our canoe together for eternity. Love you always sweetheart … This is not the end of our story … I love you “this much too” Betty xoxo
A Celebration of Dieters life will take place on Saturday October 12th from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 413 Wing Trenton 230 North Murray Street, Trenton ON, K8V 6R7
In lieu of flowers and with Dieters love of the wild and animals, donations to Fixed for Life Quinte or the Loyalist Humane Society Prince Edward County would be appreciated.
