Obituary for
Joan Davidson (Prince)
Davidson, Joan (nee Prince)
1947-2024
The family wishes to announce with great sorrow the passing of Joan at the age of 77 years at Timmins and District Hospital on August 28, 2024. Joan is predeceased by her parents, Betty and Allan Prince, her brothers Jim (Patricia) and Dave (Diane) and sister Lynn (Sam) Burton.
She will be missed by her sisters Pat and Lorri (Bill), brothers Bob (Sue) and Mike (Susan). Joan’s sons Allan (Tracey) and Michael (Natalie) forever in her heart along with son Dale who she connected with in her 60’s. Joan loved her many nieces and nephews and followed their achievements from afar. The light of her life was her only grandchild who Joan adored for over 23 years. No one brought a smile to her face more than Amanda.
Quilting and sewing dominated the second half of Joan’s life and she was very gifted in this area. She lived this passion with friends Louise, Norma and the entire Quilt Guild of Timmins. Her friend Nancy shared her creative flair and assisted with caretaking at her apartment along with repeated errands. Few had a bond with Joan like Lori Schwehr and husband Dennis who went above and beyond for 30 years becoming more family than friends. Sisters Pat and Lorri Prince and family member Kelly Venner supported her unconditionally with dinners, rides and grocery store excursions. In the middle part of Joan’s life, niece Liz and husband Don Polesky were a constant means of support. Joan thought fondly of her Davidson family in Windsor and Nova Scotia, always speaking of her sisters-in-law Helen, Bernadette and Margaret. Joan had two very special 40-year connections with Loretta and Ernie Cullimore and Vivian Houle who provided laughter and enduring friendship for decades. Their effect on her life cannot be measured in words.
Our lives are like quilts. We have blocks that are worn and tattered and some that are more vibrant. There are blocks we have neglected and ones we’ve nurtured. The quilts of our lives reveal regret and sadness along with joy and happiness, but they all connect to make up the fabric of who we are. Joan’s life-quilt was all this and more and even though it was far from perfect, we experienced its warmth, we felt safe in its shelter, and we are better for having had it wrap around us at one point or another in our lives.
Special thanks to Dr. Paul Armstrong and the entire staff at TDH in the medical and hospice units for their care and compassion over the past 6 weeks.
We are reminded of Joan’s favorite words, “love you more” and when someone else said it first she would respond with a smile, “That’s not possible”.
All are welcome to a memorial celebration on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 11:00 am from the chapel of Miron Wilson Funeral Home, followed by a light lunch and social gathering in the reception lounge of the funeral home. Interment of ashes at Timmins Memorial Cemetery will take place privately for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Quilt Guild of Timmins would be greatly appreciated. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
