John Andrew O’Grady “Jack”
August 29, 1934 – August 27, 2024
With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of John “Jack” O’Grady on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in his 90th year. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce (Hemphill).
Loving father of Daniel (Francine), Kathryn (late David), Patricia (David) and John (Carolyn). Grandfather of Alexander, Jacqueline, Genevieve, Colleen and John. Great grandfather of Troy and Evelyn.
He will be dearly missed by his sister Sister Zita O’Grady GSIC, his many nieces and nephews, and his sisters-in-law Helen (late Arnold), Kathleen (late Preston), Shirley (Bernard Legris) and brother-in-law Dwight Neddow (late Grace).
He is predeceased by his brothers Pat (Sheila), Archie (Florence), Arnold, Preston and his sister Grace.
Jack was born in the O’Grady settlement in Hagarty Township. After his family moved to Eganville, Jack furthered his education at EDCHS. Working at O’Grady Brothers Garage, he became a licensed mechanic, spending many years working for his brothers. He opened his own shop, “Jack’s Garage”, in Eganville, as a successful business for 27 years. Over the years he has taught Manual Training, part time, at the Catholic High School in Eganville and was the Clerk-Treasurer of the Township of Grattan for several decades. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed the stories that went with the great outdoors. Always eager to listen to a tale and even known to tell a few himself, his presence in the hunt camp and on the pond will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Caressant Care, Cobden for their kindness and compassion.
Jack’s final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville where visitation will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, September 2, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 2:30 pm at St. James the Less Catholic Church, Eganville. Interment in St. James Cemetery followed by a community gathering in the Church Hall.
