Shirley Gibson-Langille Obituary
Shirley Gibson-Langille was born in Toronto but lived in Kingston almost all her life. She was a romantic painter/artist known for her beautiful, on-location paintings that captured the essence of her surroundings. She always painted with a feeling of joy for the love of things as they are. Her love for art led her to the Queens University program of Fine Arts which she attended from 1958-1966. Throughout her life, she had many art shows, using her talent to raise money for various causes. She often donated to the University Hospitals Foundation, The Humane Society, and provided Art Scholarships for various high schools.
She had a deep appreciation for history and a passion for using her paintings to inspire others to see the beauty in these historic places/things she painted. She would give new life to familiar places/things, inviting others to perceive their beauty from her unique and captivating perspective. She also wrote two books which included incredible historic stories of places she’d been alongside her paintings of them.
She loved animals and would show kindness and compassion to all animals in need. From adopting stray cats, to always making sure the bird seed and bird bath was full. Her empathy for animals was a legacy she passed down to her daughter and granddaughters who now carry forward her true kindness and care.
Shirley Gibson-Langille’s legacy of creativity, compassion, love, and community service will live on and continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be remembered with great affection by her daughter (Tiffany), grand daughters (Sarah and Alaura), and her partner (Robert).
A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. (please enter through the entrance at the back of the building) on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Words of remembrance will be shared at 2:00 pm.
