Dwayne Scott Pollard
St. George’s, NL
January 1, 1972 – August 19, 2024
It is with deep sadness that the family of Dwayne Scott Pollard announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on August 19 at the age of 52 years.
Dwayne was the beloved son of the late Scott and Marie Pollard. He was born in Stephenville on January 1st, 1972 and lived there until 1999 when he met the love of his life Marilyn. Together they forged a life and built a family together, eventually settling down in St. George’s in August of 2014.
Dwayne worked hard for most of his life beginning with his first job at Coleman’s Food Centre when he was only 14. He worked many different jobs throughout his life including seismic work but his career path eventually saw him train and become a correctional officer at the age of 38 years old. Dwayne was very proud of this accomplishment.
At his work Dwayne was equally respected and admired by both his fellow officers and inmates alike. He was a respectful, empathetic and firm but fair correctional officer who treated those under his charge with dignity and respect. He loved his job and remained there until he physically couldn’t work anymore.
Dwayne was a man of great faith, he loved God, his family, his dogs and everyone that he knew. He showed love, God’s love, to everyone that came across his path and was not afraid to tell you that he loved you every chance he got. To know Dwayne was to love him, he touched the lives of everyone that he met. The only friend he didn’t have was someone he had yet to meet. Dwayne was a spontaneous, funny, fun-loving, outgoing person who had a wonderful sense of humor.
He courageously fought cancer for 10 years and remained positive, hopeful and in good spirits until the very end. Life was not always easy for Dwayne, but he chose to keep on the sunny side and smile in the face of adversity.
Dwayne was a kind, loving, caring and proud husband, father and grandfather. He was especially thankful to God and proud to see his oldest son Blake follow in his footsteps when he graduated in July of last year as a correctional officer in Prince Edward Island.
He loved the simple things in life like fishing, camping and having wiener roasts and fires at the beach. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going for a ride to Tim’s with his son, Blake, playing video games with his son Gerald, going to the movies with Jacob, Gerald and Lillian and bringing his son Gerald and daughter Lillian swimming to Gull Pond. He lived his life to the fullest.
Dwayne leaves to mourn his wife of 20 years Marilyn, sons Blake (Abby), Jacob, Gerald, daughter Lillian, granddaughter Layla, sister Lisa (Allan) MacDonald, brother Glen (Michelle), mother-in-law Laverne Halbot, brother-in-law Kenny (Lisa) Halbot, special uncle Joey (Rosie) Duval and too many other close family and friends to mention.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. @ Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing.
The Celebration of Dwayne’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 @ 2:00 p.m. from the Zion Pentecostal Church in Stephenville.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital as well as the pastoral staff of the Zion Pentecostal Church for all their care.
To honor Dwayne’s memory, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice or to the family.
