William (Bill) Allan Rice
September 21, 1937 – August 18, 2024
It is with great sadness the family of Bill Rice announce his passing at the age of 87 years on August 18, 2024 peacefully at his home with his family at his side. Bill is the much-loved husband of Brenda (Calder) Rice for 62 years. Father to Perry Rice, Paula Prouse (Barry) and Jim Rice (Cindy). Papa to Alexandra Rice (Jeff Davis), Makayla Rice, Emma Rice and great grandpa to Alec. Bill is the loving brother to Aldene Bull (Lance), Ron Rice (Gayle), Joanne Long (Dave) and brother-in-law to Pat Rice, Wayne and Sharon Scruton, Gayle Hunt (the late John Dobo). Bill will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Earl (1977), Cela (Almost Rice (2011), brothers Duane (1966), Beryle (1967), Keith (2020) and sister Marlene Simmons (1982). Bill was born and raised in the Tillsonburg area. He was a long-time employee of Tripp-Voight-Trottier as a machinist into his 80’s before retiring. He enjoyed playing slo-pitch in his earlier years and was a member of the Otter Valley Riders motorcycle group and played Broomball and Hockey until the last few years. Bill enjoyed hunting with his son, brothers and brother-in-law’s until Covid and spent many summers with his siblings at a cottage in Restoule. Many enjoyed his backyard corn roasts and parties with family and friends. The family would like to thank Care Partners, especially their nurses Tina, Suzann, Abby and Sharon for the wonderful care and compassion they showed Bill in his last months.
As per Bill’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place in Rosanna Cemetery. A celebration of life for Bill will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and can be done with the charity directly or via cheque payable to the charity by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home (519) 842-5221.
