Doreen O’Brien passed away peacefully on Thursday August 15, 2024, in her 98th year. She was born and raised in Sus, England and educated at Alfriston School for girls. She became a social secretary until her marriage to the dashing Robert O’Brien, serving overseas with the Canadian Service Corps. She came to Canada as a war bride in 1946, settled in the Niagara area and raised her 3 children there; Roger (Patricia), Shareen (Bruce Cook) and Sharian (Gary Saunders). In 1981 she and Robert moved to Portage.
Doreen loved her dogs and garden. She enjoyed birding, hiking, Tai Chi, aquasize, reading and volunteering at Herman Prior.
Survived by granddaughters Dawn and Jaimie (Scott) and great grandchildren Alexsis and Jayden.
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff of Lions Prairie Manor for their care.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will take place at a later date.
If friends wish, donations in memory of Doreen may be made to the Herman Prior Activity Centre 40 Royal Rd N, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1V1.
